IELTS General is your key to working and immigrating abroad.

You can take the IELTS General Training test at a test centre.
Choose this if you wish to migrate to an English-speaking country, (e.g. Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK) or if you wish to train or study at below degree level.
In IELTS, there are four papers: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The Speaking and Listening tests are the same in both the Academic and the General Training tests, but the Reading and Writing tests are different.

WHAT IS IELTS general training?
The IELTS General Training test assesses English language proficiency in a practical, everyday context, focusing on basic survival skills in broad social and workplace environments. Like the Academic version, it evaluates Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The Listening and Speaking sections are identical in both tests. However, the Reading section in General Training uses shorter, factual texts relevant to daily life and work, such as notices, advertisements, and company handbooks. The Writing section requires a letter based on a given situation in Task 1 and an essay on a general topic in Task 2.
Scoring for the IELTS General Training test follows the same 1 to 9 band scale. Listening and Reading scores are based on the number of correct answers out of 40, with different conversion tables compared to the Academic test. Writing and Speaking are assessed by certified examiners using criteria tailored to the General Training context, evaluating aspects like task achievement in the letter, coherence, vocabulary relevant to everyday situations, grammatical accuracy, and fluency in spoken communication. The overall band score is the average of the four section scores.
